For arguably the most important club fixture this season so far, 12 good men of Broadstone took on 12 from Remedy Oak on Wednesday 15th May. Broadstone selected most of the players who were ‘thrashed’ at Came Down last month. They certainly did not disappoint this time. Remedy Oak played a very strong team of low handicappers and players with plenty of Broadstone experience. They also included god in their team, or to be precise Le God.
Jim Barfoot led off the team as the vice-captain dropped himself to the back to try and find some form. Jim and his playing partner, Ian Potter set the tone for the day with a convincing 3 and 2 victory. Lewis Emms with Rob Bartlett and Stuart Beecroft with James Bright continued the good work with home victories. A slight wobble in the middle was followed by a very convincing win for Robin Joy and Mr reliable, Dave Marsh.
The vice captain was accompanied by new member, Chris Holmes against Remedy Oak captain Andy Giddy (8) with Matt Le Tissier (4). Inspired by playing with his hero, Graham was quickly into the game winning the 4th and 8th holes. The quality of the opponents meant the match was even after 9 holes. However, Graham continued his good fortune by winning the 11th and 13th and then took a total back seat as his partner Chris Holmes took over. An outstanding up and down on the short 15th gave the home team a 2 hole margin which Chris extended to 3 and a win, on the 16th. Their opponents’ graciously shook hands and all returned to the club house to share ‘I remember when you scored that goal’ stories with Matt Le Tissier.
