I do want to start by saying a big thank you; to all of you for the warmth, support, encouragement, and very positive feedback you have provided over the past five weeks. It has been an extremely busy but very enjoyable period for me. My feet have not touched the ground.
Where do I start? – Well the ‘drive in’ day was a fantastic experience on a personal level, and I felt very proud about becoming the Captain of this great golf club. I even managed to get my drive on the fairway. Special thanks to Mark Baber for his U-tube recording of this very rare event!
There has been a real myriad of activity to engage on over this busy time and I will attempt to summarise. If for any reason I miss something I apologise in advance.
On the social side, we have had (and in no particular order); Captains Quiz night, Oriental evening, 60’s night, a ‘New members’ reception and the launch evening for our Club charity ‘Julia’s House’ (Link) which was supported by Mr Harry Redknapp.
All of these events have been extremely well attended with 140 attending the Quiz night and 120 attending the Oriental evening. This would seem to bode extremely well for the forthcoming social programme and I am really looking forward to supporting it as much as I can. Please join me if you are able.
On the Golf side, it has also been busy. We have had the Junior prize giving, the start of the Hardy A fixtures, the 50+ interclub knockout with preparations for the Broadstone Bull in full swing. Special thanks to Tim Aston (Hardy A), Charlie Thornton and John Groves (50+ interclub challenge) and Adrian Harris (Juniors) for the hard work they have put into running the teams and the opportunities they are providing for other members. I know it is going to be a successful and enjoyable year and these guys do everything with a smile on their faces – good to see, and it is contagious!
A small look forward – A busy golfing diary is looming and I am really looking forward to the ‘Royal Wedding Texas scramble’ on the 28th April. This should be great fun and although the playing list filled quickly, it would be fantastic to see as many of you as possible in the bar to raise a glass to the happy couple. In addition, I would like to take an opportunity to promote the mixed golf in particular, participation in the ‘Lawford trophy’. The entry numbers for this have definitely improved but there is still opportunity to join us if you fancy taking part. I can find you a partner – you just have to ask!
Finally another ‘Broadstone Bull’ is nearly upon us and this is always a great day. It is a regular opportunity for others to see our superb course and I for one am really confident that this year they will be even more impressed with our unrivalled hospitality and course. I cannot wait to show it off. We are all extremely lucky to be members of such a great club!
Many thanks for your continued support.
Your Captain, Chris TT Terndrup
