Kate Roberts wins Johnstone Cup

Congratulations to Broadstone member Kate Roberts who won the Johnstone Cup as part of the Dorset Ladies County Championships.

The event for 12-20 handicap golfers started with an 18 hole qualifying round on the Wednesday where Kate won the Threlfall Cup for the best gross score with a gross 86, net 72, with Maggie Bray the runner up with a gross 92, nett 76.

The top 16 from this event qualified for the knockout stages on the Thursday and Friday, including Kate, Maggie and other Broadstone members, Lady Captain Sue Jackson, Helen Cloney, and Debbie Driver. Sue Jackson won through to the semi final and in a tight contest lost narrowly to Kate in an all Broadstone contest.

In the final against Shannon Stubbs from Yeovil, hardly any holes were halved in a very tight match which stood at all square on the last tee. Kate then produced an excellent chip from the front left corner of the green which was enough to secure her par and a one up win.

Well played Kate as and thank you to all those members who have helped so far with ball spotting and starting duties. The Championship continues over the weekend with the top 16 match play stages of the Scratch Championships take place, where we hope to have some Broadstone involvement.
